Informing policy through scholarship

Faculty members in the school are involved in important and policy-relevant research on issues that span the discipline of Criminology and Criminal Justice. This research broadly covers Corrections, Policing, Juvenile Justice, Race/Justice, Law and Courts, Violence and Victimization and Neighborhoods, Community and Crime. Police-community relations, use of technology by the police, mass incarceration and its consequences, racial profiling by criminal justice agencies including sentencing, the response of the criminal justice system to crimes such as domestic violence and sexual assault, neighborhoods and crime, and gangs and crime are project areas in which our faculty are engaged. The results of these projects are incorporated into the classes taught; they also inform policy and practice at the state, national and international levels.
