Inside Out Network: Connecting Returning Citizens With Service Providers

Description of Agency:

We are helping transform reentry by connecting returning citizens and service providers through our revolutionary online platform. Think of us as the “eharmony of reentry”. Though we are based in Tucson, students will work remotely, and $300 stipends are available for ASU Criminal Justice student interns.

Internship Snapshot:

  • Identify reentry service providers, churches and ministries, and volunteers/advocates in Arizona and Illinois. Educate potential subscribers about the ION platform, demo the website, and encourage subscriptions.
  • Actively pursue leads for potential subscribers by phone, email, and Zoom meetings. Assist new subscribers to enroll in ION.
  • Help create online profiles for inmates by entering data from paper registration forms into the ION platform.
  • Interact and collaborate with a wide range of reentry service providers, various staff at the Arizona and Illinois departments of correction, regional reentry coalitions, ION volunteers, and other stakeholders.

Students can expect to: 

  •  Work virtually with Justice-involved youth to empower them to strengthen their protective factors. 
  •  Engage in extensive training on adolescent development, ACE's and Trauma-informed care. 
  • Learn how to give youth strength-based feedback.
  • Gain experience related to accounting success by contributing to monthly and weekly reports. 
  • Students will focus on time management and practice collaborative skills with other interns and supervisors in the program. 

Team Kids

Description of Agency:

Team Kinds is a non profit organization that delivers the Team Kids Challenge, an empirically validated five-week, in school program that empowers and mobilizes elementary school-aged children as compassionate leaders, serving alongside public safety mentors such as on duty police officers to create lasting community change.

Snapshot of Internship: 

 

Students can expect to: 

  • Shadow and support Team Kids Coaches with weekly program delivery including kick-off assemblies, youth-led leadership team meetings, and carnivals. 
  • Assist with taking photos and capturing the program in progress.
  • Assist where needed with event planning including creating and distributing program fliers, video presentations, and youth interactive activities.
  • Assist in the preparations and set up of carnivals including sorting tickets, organizing game tables and prizes, and distribution of t-shirts and craft supplies.
  • Assist with follow up surveys and reflection sheets, and debrief meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
