Undergraduate Major Requirements (48 credit hours):

In addition to completing (1) the University Undergraduate General Studies requirements (36 credit hours minimum), (2) the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions’ Interdisciplinary/Related-Area requirements (12 credit hours), (3) the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions’ Service-Based Learning requirements (3 credit hours), and (4) a sufficient number of elective courses to reach 120 credit hours, the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice requires all students to complete the following requirements to earn the Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice:

  •  Eight Core Curriculum Courses (24 credit hours):
    • CRJ 100: Introduction to Criminal Justice (3 credit hours)
    • CRJ 201: Criminal Justice Crime Control Policies and Practices (3 credit hours)
    • CRJ 203: Courts and Sentencing (3 credit hours)
    • CRJ 230: Introduction to Policing (3 credit hours)
    • CRJ 240: Introduction to Corrections (3 credit hours)
    • CRJ 302: Research Methods (3 credit hours)
    • CRJ 303: Statistical Analysis (3 credit hours)
    • CRJ 309: Criminology (3 credit hours)
       
  • One Course Devoted to Diversity and the Criminal Justice System Selected from the Following Two Options (3 credit hours):
     
    • CRJ 305: Gender, Crime, and Criminal Justice (3 credit hours); or
    • CRJ 306: Race, Ethnicity, Crime, and Justice (3 credit hours)
  • Seven Elective Courses in the Major (21 credit hours):
     
    • Up to One Elective Course may be taken at the 200-level (3 credit hours)*
    • Up to Two Elective Courses may be taken at the 300-level (6 credit hours)*
    • At least Four Elective Courses must be taken at the 400-level (12 credit hours)

* Note that 200-level electives may be fulfilled by taking upper-division courses at the 300- or 400-level. Similarly, 300-level electives may be fulfilled by taking 400-level courses.

  • Two Upper-Division Elective Courses (6 credit hours)
