Drink Water and Walk the Track: The Intersection of Women's Health, Carceral Control, and Punishment

Kathryn Tapp is a fourth-year doctoral candidate in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia College & State University. Her research focuses on the intersection of health, incarceration, and punishment, with particular attention to how women and girls experience reproductive healthcare access in carceral settings. Her work has been published in Women’s Health, Corrections: Policy, Practice and Research, and Police Research and Practice. Beyond her academic research, Kathryn partners with local organizations to advance menstrual equity, lead community-based health education initiatives, and support reentry programming, with a commitment to research that informs policy and practice to address systemic inequity and expand access to care for system-impacted individuals.
