Holtfreter selected to participate on NAS panel

Kristy Holtfreter has been selected to participate in a Committee on Law and Justice, part of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) panel taking place in Washington, DC on June 3, 2015.

The panel is meeting to speak on the topic of corporate criminal justice, with the goal of laying “the groundwork for a potential National Academy of Sciences study that would explore the role that science can play in advancing corporate crime theory, policy and practice.”

Planners note some compelling reasons for the meeting, including “the perceived seriousness of corporate crimes and regular failures of corporate regulation, to the need for rigorous social science to better structure discretion throughout the criminal process.”

A professor and director of graduate programs in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Holtfreter is a nationally recognized expert in the areas of female offending and victimization, financial crimes and criminological theory.

The panel will explore how existing criminological theory and mainstream research might be applied to corporate deviance, culminating in recommendations for the NAS to consider as part of a study addressing issues across the spectrum of the criminal justice process.

The meeting is being organized with support from the Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
